Michael's practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting utility and design patent applications, conducting due diligence assessments, preparing legal opinions, and negotiating and drafting license agreements. Prior to joining Patent Law Works, Michel worked as an associate at Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P.
Michel has technical expertise in a number of computer-related technology areas including web applications; mobile applications; data management; data processing; distributed computing; social networks; business methods; performance monitoring; product configuration and telecommunications.
Michel also has expertise with medical devices including surgical robotics and prosthetic devices; thin-films; solar; smart glazings; semiconductors; semiconductor manufacturing; nanotechnology; consumer electronics; automotive; aerospace and reprography.
Prior to law school, Michel worked in IBM's Systems and Technology Group where he oversaw the development and deployment of mission-critical software and managed the phase-out of legacy systems. He also oversaw the development and maintenance of mask and wafer layout production systems.
While earning his law degree, Michel served as Senior Editor of IDEA (The IP Law Review), Chair of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association, and Student Liaison to the Board of Trustees. Michel also worked for an international intellectual property law firm where he prosecuted patent applications designated for the European and U.S. patent offices, and externed at a top U.S. research institution where he negotiated and drafted technology license agreements.
