Jeff has over twenty years of legal and software development experience. He has represented a wide range of clients, from solo inventors and privately held start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Jeff’s practice concentrates on patent portfolio development, strategic intellectual property management, and patent prosecution in the software arts. He has extensive experience in the procurement of patents protecting complex software technologies. His experience includes U.S. and foreign patent procurement, patent licensing, patent non-infringement and invalidity opinion letter drafting and strategic intellectual property counseling. Jeff has also performed intellectual property and technical analysis for patent, copyright and trade secret litigation involving a wide range of software technologies.
Jeff is a former professional computer programmer, with a strong understanding of complicated software internals. Before attending law school, Jeff worked for over six years developing commercial software for a variety of companies in the U.S. and abroad. His areas of technical expertise include serial communications, client-server applications, networking, operating system internals, computer security and complex data analysis.
Prior to joining Patent Law Works, Jeff founded the Brill Law Office, a patent law firm specializing in the procurement of patents for inventions in the fields of computer science and electrical engineering. Before that, Jeff was a partner at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, and an associate at Fenwick & West.
